Survey First Limited was established in October 2009 in response to the anticipated increase in demand for survey related works emanating from the country’s exit from the worldwide recession.

Survey First is a lean efficient professional business providing quality services. The business is ready to take advantage of the expected growth in the volume of survey related work that will be required in an improving economy.

We supply surveying services to a wide range of clients over a variety of sectors and disciplines including Topographic Surveying for the Transportation sector covering Railway and Highway Projects and for development work on Green/Brownfield sites in Rural and Urban environments. We also supply Sub Surface Utilities Mapping using radio detection and ground penetrating radar and Measured Building Surveys for the production of Floor plans, elevations and sections.

The directors boast more than 70 years combined experience in the fields of Surveying, CAD-GIS and Aerial Surveying giving Survey First an edge in determining the most appropriate method of capturing, processing and presenting your digital information. By utilising the latest, reflectorless and robotic total stations, GPS we can provide high quality land and measured building surveys on time and budget. Our staff can react quickly to meet your requirements and have full control over projects from site visits to the final digital model.

Survey First Limited will supply its clients with a full range of services throughout the survey discipline and to achieve this have formed working partnerships with other equally professional companies.

 

Directors & Senior Staff Profiles

Graham Callander
Managing Director

Throughout his career, Graham has held a range of senior positions, from Group Internal Auditor and Commercial Manager through to Financial Controller and General Manager. His strong financial background and all round commercial experience serves him well in his role as Managing Director with specific responsibility for strategy and vision.

 

David Corfield
Business Development Director

In March 2005 David became Business Development Director with CMCR Limited and during the last 4½ years travelled many thousands of miles to expand the client base and to broaden the range of services offered.

A new challenge now exists to ensure that Survey First becomes an even more recognised name for producing a Quality Product at a Fair Price and with a Fast Response time to clients and prospective clients throughout the UK, Ireland and Europe.

 

David Motion
Operations Director

David first became interested in Surveying whilst studying Geography at Aberdeen University, continuing his studies at Glasgow University where he undertook his Post Graduate Diploma in Land Surveying.

On completing his studies David started work with a Survey Company in Fife as a Graduate Trainee. During his 22 years there he progressed through various roles and departments from Senior Surveyor, Systems Manager, CAD Manager, Business Development Manager to Estimating Manager.

Having previously set up a new survey company with three colleagues in 2005 David is now Operations Director of Survey First Ltd. He is also a member of RICS and the CICES. These various roles have provided him with the wide range of skills and experience that he is able to put to good use at Survey First.

 

Julia Osborn
Finance Director

Julia is a qualified accountant with many years experience within a wide variety of sectors. She has been involved in finance based Business Management Consultancy throughout most of her career and has held senior positions in companies varying in size from £150k turnover to £30m turnover. Julia puts all of this experience to good use managing the finances of Survey First.

 

Colin Clark
Production Manager

Colin entered surveying in 1989 and steadily progressed through the ranks and has undertaken a wide portfolio of works – setting out, dimensional control, topographic, hydrographic, GPS, GIS, CAD, measured building surveys, project management and estimating.

Colin is Production Manager at Survey First where his remit is similar to that undertaken at his previous company, this includes Project Management, operational management, resources, quality control and deliverables. Colin is also involved in estimating and business development.

 

Jim Melville
Railway & Technical Manager

In 1999 Jim made the move to the Private Sector to take up a position as a Senior Land Surveyor before joining CMCR Ltd in April 2005 initially as Project Surveyor in charge of land surveys, training and technical development. When the Company expanded into railways and underground services he became the Rail and Utilities Manager. Since the launch of Survey First in October 2009 Jim has continued in the role of Rail and Technical Manager.
